The niche fragrance brand has had an Amsterdam-inspired scent since 2017, but unlike all other cities in Le Labo‘s coveted City Exclusives range, the vibrant Dutch capital lacked a standalone boutique of its own. Well, that was yesterday. The New York City-based company has recently opened the doors of its latest retail space in Amsterdam‘s scenic Canal District. Occupying a total of 109 sqm. (1,173 sq.ft.) spread across the ground floor and basement of a red brick, gabled building from 1939 – indeed, the structure looks a tad more dated at first sight – and features an interior design by the brand’s in-house design team. The design codes are based on Le Labo‘s meticulously calibrated New York City downtown lifestyle aesthetic, but with elements blended in that reference both the city and local craftsmanship.

An exposed brick wall and weathered-looking timber flooring add an edge to the more polished opposite side of the store where pristine whitewashed walls latch on to a ceiling covered in ornate tiles. Furnishings comprise a robust metal sales counter, as an extension of a built-in lab, and a selection of curated vintage pieces, including a retro sink where shoppers can experience the body care collection. The lab allows a behind-the-scenes look into a perfumer’s working space with raw oils, ingredients, and slow perfumery tools. A library, at the back of the store, is filled with books that pay homage to Le Labo’s reverence for artisanal craft, in addition to vintage Dutch ceramics and artworks. The adjacent patio not only offers shoppers a tranquil oasis, but also allows in floods of daylight. The new Le Labo store carries the brand’s full range of fragrances, in addition to body, hair and face products, and home products.
