Founded only in 2015, niche cosmetics and fragrances retailer Trove has garnered a large following with its offerings, obviously, but it’s also fully aware of the marketing power of a brick and mortar presence. Following the last year’s opening of its first retail space at The Starhill, a shopping centre in downtown Kuala Lumpur, a second boutique has recently been inaugurated in suburban Petaling Jaya. Occupying a 830 sqm. (8,934 sq.ft.) unit on the second floor of shopping centre Pavilion Damansara Heights, the store features an interior design by design practice Spacemen. Contrary to the more traditional first retail space, the new boutique has a slightly futuristic aesthetic, featuring curved perimeter walls in rammed earth and coarse stucco with cascading layers that form display nooks for products. Striking? Certainly, but it’s the circular booth, or in Trove parlance: Scent Cove, crafted from steel rods with an anodised finish, which truly is the setting’s eye-catcher. A shop façade of grey travertine frames the entire retail setting. The new Trove store stocks the brand’s full range of fragrances and scented candles.
