Riding the wave of success of visvim brand, creative director Hiroki Nakamura has been steadily rolling out a retail network to accommodate his ever-growing fanbase. His quirkily blend of retail concepts includes F.I.L., short for Free International Laboratory, and named after his Americana-inspired menswear line, and the latest outpost has just opened in the upscale Ginza shopping district in Tokyo. Aptly dubbed F.I.L. Ginza, the retail space occupies a small brick building, originally erected in 1932 as an oil shop, one of the very few historic structures in the neighbourhood. The store measures approx. 126 sqm. (1,356 sq.ft.) spread across three floors, and sees an interior design created by Nakamura and his in-house design team. Paying respect to the building’s legacy, much of the interior design has been executed using as much of the original materials as possible, notably the upper floors and ceilings. Also, the window frames have been redone by a craftsman who copied an original window found within the eastern wall of the second floor during the renovation. The store settings are simple yet meticulously orchestrated, featuring both carefully sourced vintage furnishings and custom-made pieces against a backdrop of whitewashed walls. The newly opened F.I.L. Ginza store stocks the full range of visvim‘s A/W 2023 Collection of apparel, accessories and shoes.
