Although established in Paris four years ago, it’s in Amsterdam where FLÂNEUR founders Regi Schalks and Kayo van Zoest have taken their operations to a new level with the brand’s permanent standalone store. Following a temporary retail space just a block away in the city’s leafy Oud Zuid district, FLÂNEUR has secured a 174 sqm. (1,873 sq.ft.) spread across three levels of a residential building erected in 1902. The interior design, a collaborative effort of Schalks and multidisciplinary artistic research practice Indebt Studio, spawns from an initial collaboration on FLÂNEUR‘s Somewhere in Europe collection which resulted in an installation project. The premises boast a clean and understated aesthetic, featuring only very few ornamental elements.

The latter range merely comprise a glass bench sitting in the window, created by artist and Indebt Studio co-founder Ciro Duclos, and an ornate, 100-year old lantern which playfully straddles two store levels. Needless to say, the latter two elements are emblematic of the Dutch capital’s scenic urban landscape. Steel clothing racks, mirrored surfaces, glass shelving, and last but not least, a playfully meandering nuon light strip, lend the store a distinct contemporary touch. FLÂNEUR‘s signature colour, a soft shade of green inspired by moss and captured by velvet, covers the full interior of the fitting rooms. The new FLÂNEUR store carries the brand’s full range of men’s apparel, accessories, footwear, bags and small leather goods.
