Since 2014, a large chunk of Belgrade is being drastically redeveloped to put the city a litter firmer on the global map. But while the controversial multi-billion dollar Belgrade Waterfront project aims to attract the movers and shakers of this world, the adjacent Stari Grad and Dorćol neighbourhoods have retained their original character and are home to an entirely different demographic. Needless to say, this part of town comes with a lifestyle and infrastructure all its own, and the recent opening of the quirky TT Eatery bears witness of these quarters’ stature. Founded by the people behind TT Bistro, a popular lunch and dining spot which opened a few blocks away only last summer, it’s a similarly laid-back hospitality concept, but serving savoury breakfast and a number of local fast-food bites instead.

The restaurant occupies a 60 sqm. (646 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of a residential building and also features an interior design by Belgrade-based practice Freya Architects. A tad more low-key than its sister establishment, the setting sees juxtaposes exposed brick wall sections with stretches dipped in a bright blue or bright yellow, in addition to plenty of tiles, also covering the floor, and the occasional utility pipe in a red hue. Furnishings and fixtures comprise a large service counter paired with stools, vintage red tubular steel chairs with matching tables, in addition to small tables and a communal table with various chairs. A transparent PVC curtain separates the seating area from the bathroom section at the far end. As said, TT Eatery is all about fast-food, and the menu lists local dishes such as currywurst with cabbage salad, hamburger, and fritters with pear in red wine, paired with beers, wines and soft drinks.
