For quite some time now, design-led health and massage salons are no longer based the prerogative of Russia‘s traditional fashion and lifestyle hubs Moscow and St. Petersburg, and the recent inauguration of Possi is indicative of this trend. Situated in suburban Krasnodar, a provincial city in the south of the country, the venue has recently been upgraded with the help of Elena Lokastova, an architect based in the Russian capital. Measuring 123 sqm. (1,324 sq.ft.), the salon is situated on the ground floor of a nine-storey apartment building erected in 1977. Occupying a space which needed to accommodate four full-fledged medical offices with a shower, a lounge and waiting area, a staff and technical area, and a display section to showcase merchandise. Prior to opening the Possi salon, the owner was required to obtain a medical licence which has also influenced the meticulous design process, specifically the selection of materials. Upon entering Possi, clients find themselves in a light-filled gallery with large windows.
The setting is framed by terrazzo flooring with an intricate hand-laid motif and pristine white walls inlaid with abstract figurines of reflective stainless steel. The aforementioned treatment rooms and other sections are situated alongside the gallery and shielded by an elongated partition with steel-framed window sections at the very top that allows daylight to permeate further through the premises. Adding to the clean and understated aesthetic is the fact that most furnishings, functions and the reception desk’s technical equipment have been integrated into the wall. The only free-standing volumes in the gallery comprise a cluster of cylindrical steel displays. The whitewashed treatment rooms are equally understated with most necessities concealed, allowing the colour-infused tile flooring to work its visual magic. A corridor clad in stainless steel leads to the back the staff and technical areas can be found. The new Possi salon offers its clientele a series of beautician and massage services.
