When it comes to evocative retail and hospitality that strikes a chord, look no further than South Korea, and specifically in and around Seoul. The South Korean capital has morphed into a true hotbed of innovation, spawning a number of local brands that have taken the global stage by storm. In this category falls Tamburins, a cosmetics brand affiliated to the hugely successful Gentle Monster eyewear empire, which in turn has amped up its marketing efforts through bold, imaginative initiatives, such as the recently inaugurated perfume exhibition in Seoul. Coinciding with Solace: A Handful of Comfort, the first major campaign dedicated to its fragrances which has also been captured with a video promo featuring Black Pink songstress Jennie that set the internet into a frenzy, Tamburins created a perfume exhibition.

Well, it’s actually more of a gigantic installation, and it’s held on the multi-storey premises of Alver, a hybrid coffee parlour and art gallery space in the city’s Seongdong neighbourhood. So, what’s on display? The black statuette candle featured in the video is recreated here, albeit in a giant form, and given its proportions, it’s presented on two floors. The exhibition additionally features a sound art section, a display of art objects with an adjacent campaign screening room, a perfume room where to sample the Tamburins perfume collection, and a lounge, sales counter and observatory on the top floor. So, when you’re in town, why not explore your new favourite fragrance collection? Click here to make an online reservation (Sorry, that’s for Naver and Kakao members only, all others can obtain a ticket at the venue / on through Oct 30).
