The buzzing Busanjin district of Busan, South Korea‘s second biggest city, is a mixed bag of business, shopping and entertainment, and as such, the action is pretty much 24/7. It’s right here, in one of the area’s many little side streets where the newly revamped or whatever café is nestled with a distinctive design concept. The establishment sits on the ground floor of a modern brick building, occupying a 45 sqm. (484 sq.ft.) unit which has been completely redeveloped by local design and branding practice design by 83. Abandoning the usual layout of most cafés, bars and other watering holes, or whatever‘s interior design is centred around a central column in the square space and an open,, circular configuration that’s visually reinforced overhead by a decorative ring, which embeds light spots, supported by untreated birch plywood pillars. Masonry bricks which had been retained from the previous interior have been reused to create the plastered backdrop. The chosen aesthetic is intentionally raw and unpolished in an attempt to have the new interventions seamlessly adapt to the retained elements of the building. The latter can also be said of the furnishings which have all been designed to blend in the understated setting. The or whatever café’s me nu lists various coffee concoctions, sandwiches, toast with different toppings, and desserts.
