It’s a pretty bold demonstration of lockdown creativity. We’re talking fashion designer agnès b. picking up the camera in 2020 to take photographs of two paintings by Los Angeles-based French artist Claire Tabouret (1981) she had purchased a few years ago, and dressing them up with clothing from her very own wardrobe. The results are no less than 80 colour photographs and a new exhibition, aptly entitled les drôlesses, opening on Thu – Sep 8 (6pm-8pm) at the agnès b. Galerie Boutique in New York City. The images tells the story of the young and mischievous designer and the timeless pieces she has created that have made the agnès b. brand the iconic label that it is today. The images reflect the designer’s childhood, her relationship with art, and last but not least, more than 40 years of passion for photography, design, and art. A 120-page catalogue, entitled les drôlesses – agnès b. interprets CLAIRE TABOURET, was published for the exhibition last year and will be for sale at agnès b. stores and online for USD 35. Part of the revenues will be donated to Secours Populaire, a French non-profit organisation founded in 1945 that’s dedicated to fighting poverty and discrimination in public life.
