Arguably best known as the parent company of Diesel, Milan-based OTB also owns a coveted set of luxury fashion houses, including Jil Sander, Maison Margiela, Marni, and since 2019, it also has a minority stake in AMIRI. In an unprecedented move, OTB has increased its footprint in China by opening flagship stores for the latter four brands, and all at JC Plaza shopping centre in Shanghai. Given the distinct image and profile of each of the brands, obviously every retail space has an interior design of its own that complies with the respective design codes. Mind you, JC Plaza is a newly opened upscale shopping centre in the Nanjing Xi Lu area of town which forms an integral part of a modern mixed-use complex that also includes the five-star Shanghai JC Mandarin hotel.

The AMIRI store occupies a 580 sqm. (6,243 sq.ft.) unit spread over two floors with an entrance of its own on street level, and features a collaborative interior design by the brand’s creative director Mike Amiri and Paris-based practice NOCOD. The façade, clad in limestone, signals from afar the chosen design codes, featuring a matching backdrop of tile flooring and whitewashed walls, offset by displays and wall sections clad in slabs of marble or dark timber, and striking black & white checkered carpets. Upstairs, a multifunctional lounge space can be found for in-house events, and it’s here where the brand demonstrates its alliance with the local creative scene, showcasing a series of artworks by artist Li Zhongshi. The new AMIRI store carries the brand’s full range of men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, shoes and bags.
