As daily life gradually resumes its usual course in Kyiv, looking good once again becomes a top priority for many. The Kimera salon opened a little while ago, and as such, it has timely anticipated this accelerated demand for on-trend hair and beauty consultations. The salon occupies a 112 sqm. (1,206 sq.ft.) unit on the premises of a listed Ukrainian Art Nouveau-style residential structure by architect Mykola Shekhonin (1882-1970), and which was originally built for renowned physician Yosyp Yurkevich. The interior design, created by designers Artem Vakhrin and Katya Aivazian of local architecture practice AKZ Architectura, sees a bold infusion of gradations of pink, prominently captured by the walls, specific furnishings and flooring, and as the owner is a huge fan of Goth and anime, elements of the two have been playfully blended into the settings.

Featuring two spaces, Kimera boasts a reception area, a waiting area, sections for hairdressers and makeup artists, a hair colouring bar and also a retail space. Although both spaces have an open plan configuration, customisable sofa and a glass partition are used as room dividers. A mirrored corridor, adorned with a reflection of a Gothic castle, connects the two spaces. Furnishings and props have been carefully sourced, and include a vintage mirror, a xjer studio chandelier, and a table lamp by Artemide. And speaking of lighting, a light box system is installed to brighten the work areas. As said, Kimera is a hair and beauty salon, and its menu offers all the obvious options for men and women, but also an array of specialisations, such as scalp and intensive hair care treatment, damaged hair reconstruction, and even eyebrow shaping.
