Since cult designer Hedi Slimane took the creative reigns in 2018, CELINE has brilliantly reinvented itself, becoming once again the uniform for a young and well-heeled bourgeoisie. Accordingly, the luxury brand’s retail spaces have seen a full makeover with evident touches by Slimane which add an eclectic yet distinct contemporary edge to the brand identity. The newly opened CELINE pop-up store at Le Bon Marché department store in Paris, a veritable bastion of bon chic bon genre, is no exception. Occupying no less than 70 sqm. (753 sq.ft.) on the ground floor, it features a pergola-like structure of large wooden beams with shelving units, and crossbars come with in-laid lighting strips. The construction is paired with sleek black steel and glass cabinets, and last but not least, a variety of furnishings designed by Slimane himself. The pop-up store, aptly dubbed Plein Soleil, presents an eponymous women’s capsule collection that’s intrinsically linked to CELINE‘s S/S 2022 Baie des Anges Collection and the inimitable elegance of the French Riviera‘s summer vibe.
On display are a wide range of trophies, including a Bain de soleil floral dress, Baja jacket, and crop top in embroidered cotton or smocked floral Georgette fabric for a stroll around town, and a striped shirt and light denim dress for shopping. Going to the beach? Check out the swimwear sets, towels, striped Fouta and pop-coloured cap or straw Panama hat. Needless to say, the CELINE pop-up caters to style-infused nocturnal debaucheries as well, presenting a Bain de soleil dress in lamé printed silk, a lingerie top in jacquard silk and a pleated skirt. The silhouettes are complemented by CELINE summer baskets, large striped cabas, block and edge sneakers, sandals and jewellery pieces. Obviously, the entire CELINE fragrance range can be found here too. But that’s not all. The die-hard CELINE fan base are in for unexpected bonus treats, such as an alluring hammock, and, how very, very French, a set of logo-engraved Pétanque balls (open through Jun 5).
