Once again, Shenzhen proves to be fertile ground for both forward luxury brands and cult youth labels, and the recently inaugurated pop-up store of Études bears witness of the city’s stature in Chinese fashion circles. The ephemeral store, which follows a shop-in-shop in Beijing and its online introduction on Tmall, occupies a 120 sqm. (1,292 sq.ft.) ground floor unit at Shenzhen MixC, one of the city’s leading shopping centres. The interior design, created in collaboration with hugo haas studio, sees a fusion of the brand’s distinctive aesthetic vision and architectural concepts that embed its very essence. Clean, understated and overtly linear, the design aesthetic also oozes Études‘ focus on durability which is evident in the palette of materials used.

Lacquered steel grids, a key element of Études‘ retail design, is paired with materials such as aerated concrete, vibrated aluminium, and blue-tinted glass. The brand’s signature colour can be seen on a variety of surfaces throughout the premises, balancing out the austerity the range of muted grey hues captured by the walls, flooring, bare ceiling and furnishings. The new Études store carries the brand’s selection of apparel, accessories and eyewear, but will also present artistic collaborations, photography books, and record editions (open through Jan 2024). The Paris-based brand has big plans in China as another ephemeral retail space will open shortly in Beijing while additional points of sale in targeted shopping malls nationwide are planned in the next five years.
