Since the inauguration if its first flagship store in Miami‘s plush oceanside district of South Beach in 2009, The Webster has gone leaps and bounds, opening a string of boutiques in some of the most coveted shopping grounds stateside. The multi-brand retailer has the gained a quite a reputation among an in-the-know crowd with a tightly curated collections that mix power dressing and sporty looks with a playful European flair. Following the much-publicised opening of The Webster‘s flagship store in Los Angeles, an event we talked about in a previous post, the retailer continues to expand, and for the first time abroad, launching a standalone retail space in Toronto‘s booming retail arena. Situated in Yorkville, the city’s leading upscale shopping ground, the company has secured a listed historical building erected in 1884 by prominent landowner Leeds Sheppard. Measuring no less than 6,500 sq.ft. (604 sqm.) set across three floors, the store features an interior design by The Webster‘s creative director Stéphane Parmentier who also runs a design practice of his own in Paris. The interior design harks back to the retailer’s roots and this imminently shows in the brick façade’s bold pink façade and a flamingo wind vane at the top peak.

Obviously, the uplifting summery hue extends inside, captured by pink terrazzo marble flooring, a bold illuminated pink staircase, and when entering the premises, shoppers are greeted by a pink feathered bear by Italian multimedia artist Paola Pivi as a frivolous nod to what’s arguably Canada‘s most emblematic animal. Walls are covered in pristine white Marmorino plaster and paired with various shades of terrazzo, captured by displays, shelving and wall panels, or alternated with vintage wallpapers from founder Laure Hériard Dubreuil‘s personal collection. The circular Whisper Room is anchored around a grouping of palm trees scaling into a dome ceiling, demonstrating another link with the store’s birthplace. The top floor is also home to a true sneaker treasure trove. Here, a fully studded black centrepiece dangles from the ceiling, surrounded by raw travertine fixtures and a custom foosball table is readily available for a fun interlude in between shopping sprees. Similar to other The Webster stores, the newest outpost carries an expertly balanced mix of trophies by established luxury brands and items from a selection of cool emerging brands that effortlessly allow shoppers to create a signature personal style.
