As an affiliate brand of Gentle Monster, dessert brand NUDAKE piggybacks on the former’s expertise in experiential retail, resulting in a number of appealing standalone stores and cafés in Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul, and yes, its latest outpost in Hwaseong, is no exception. As of late, the South Korean capital’s satellite city has seen a major retail boost with the opening of Lotte department store’s newest branch with an abundance of shop-in-shops by luxury brands, but also NUDAKE‘s newest outpost on home turf. Situated on the second floor, alongside a patio, the NUDAKE store sees three distinct sections, all designed by the in-house design team of Gentle Monster. The store occupies an elongated unit on the second floor alongside a spacious patio and across a myriad of shop-in-shops by fashionable apparel brands.

The setting sees three distinct sections, each with an understated aesthetic, but the spacious café section arguably is the most eye-catching. It’s here, against a backdrop of seemingly make-shift wall panelling, where NUDAKE‘s quirky and predominantly black-coloured desserts and pastries – mind you, the sought-after bites bear fitting names such as White Peak, the brand’s signature dish, Colosseo and Pain au Black – are presented on both displays and wooden boards on trestles. The restaurant is furnished with Rietveld-inspired wooden chairs paired with sleek metal tables, and one side it’s flanked by a full-fledged service station captured in shiny stainless steel. On the opposite end, beyond the service station, a short corridor leads to a Spartan-style lounge furnished merely with bulky sofas and the same sleek metal tables, all against a backdrop of wooden panels and pristine white walls.
