Only two years after Randomevent opened its very first flagship store in Shanghai, the premises have seen a bold revamp. Occupying a voluminous ground floor unit on the ground floor of an early 20th-century red brick building in the city’s Changning district, the popular streetwear brand has once again collaborated with artist and entrepreneur Zhang Quan to create a new look for the retail space. The exposed whitewashed roof with its myriad of beams and utility pipes, and matching walls have been retained, but the most striking modifications include flooring of stone tiles, a different configuration of the space, and simple, seemingly Shaker-inspired furnishings crafted from untreated wood and metal. Timber has also been used to clad specific wall sections, and combined with the various furniture pieces, the material visually spices up the monochromatic setting. The back section features two large screens featuring promotional footage, but is also adorned by a large cartoon-like duck sculpture and a perfectly manicured Bonsai tree. The renewed Randomevent store carries the brand’s carries full range of men’s and women’s apparel, and unsurprisingly, select items by Quan’s very own streetwear brand Melting Sadness. The streetwear brand is not only upgrading, but also expanding its retail network as new stores are scheduled to open in both Changsha and Shanghai in the course of this year.
