If your name is Frank Ocean, you can do anything. We’ve always suspected the elusive cult artist to be multitalented—indeed, the recent launch of his 25-piece luxury jewellery line Homer is proof of that, but only weeks after, he has now also dared to enter the volatile, if not treacherous, world of retail, and if you ask us, that’s double proof. The Homer boutique occupies one of the compact ground floor units at the New York Jewellers Exchange building in New York City‘s Chinatown, and features an interior design by local architecture practice ANY. Ocean picked the name Homer for no specific reason, but does acknowledge the eponymous ancient Greek author as the father of history, seeing a link with endurance, just as diamonds and gold, both materials used in his designs. Understated and clean, the store setting is infused with aluminium, captured by a backdrop of floor-to-ceiling colourful imagery of bright green jewellery boxes and a silk scarf, and a row of display counters embellished on the side with subtle abstract reliefs. The Homer store not only stocks the Ocean’s jewellery line, but also silk scarves – hence the aforementioned wall decoration – but it’s expected to offer more items, including a hotly anticipated collab apparel collection with Prada.
