The Hoxton has expanded once again, and this time, the London-based hospitality chain has opened an outpost in The Eternal City. The Hoxton Rome is situated in the Salario district right next to the lush greens of Villa Borghese, and occupies an existing building erected in the 1970s. The structure has been fully transformed by the design studio of owner Ennismore and design practice Fettle into Rome‘s newest stylish lodgings and ditto social hangout. The property features 192 guestrooms spread across seven floors and come in six different sizes—Shoebox, Cosy, Cosy Up, Roomy, Roomy Terrace and Biggy. The design fittingly takes cues from local culture, the nostalgic interiors of classic Italian cinema to be precise, for which the Italian capital is celebrated. Rustic parquet flooring is paired with lacquered timbers and local stones, whilst the brightly coloured bathrooms nod to mid-century Italian design.

Each room has rich timber wall panelling, a bespoke statement headboard and an eclectic mix of furniture. Some of the larger rooms feature Murano glass chandeliers that were salvaged from the building. Guests booking the Roomy Terrace room can enjoy their very own furnished terrace. The public spaces have obviously seen a matching revamp, starting with the dusty pink façade that has remained largely untouched. The ground floor is infused with Italian marble and terrazzo, and is paired with wall panelling, timber floors and furniture in exuberant fabrics in the light-filled lobby, creating a warm and homey ambiance. Key details from the local architecture and neighbourhood have cleverly been translated into the design in reimagined form, and as said, this creates a sense of familiarity that makes each Hoxton so true to its location.

An integral part of The Hoxton Rome is Cugino, an informal all-day diner offering farm-to-table cuisine and run in collaboration with local restaurant and micro-bakery Marigold. The menu lists a variety of coffee concoctions, freshly baked pastries, breakfast, brunch, and casual lunches, all served in the restaurant, lobby on the outdoor terrace, and in the evening, the venue effortlessly transitions into a bar with house-made snacks, antipasti, and of course, signature cocktails. The hotel also comes with a meeting and event space on the lower ground floor called L’Appartamento, featuring five stylish rooms and all centred around a communal pantry kitchen. Further boosting the sense of Italian culture on the premises, albeit tightly curated, are illustrations by Michele Marconi on key cards and other objects, hotel shop merchandise selected by realthings, and books selected by Bookdealer.it and MAXXI.
