As a highly revered model of economic and urban planning, Shenzhen offers most its fast-growing number of city dwellers an easy breezy lifestyle awash with plenty of perks. The affluence has spawned a sophisticated infrastructure which is slowly closing in on the level of offerings of neighbouring Hong Kong. Local retail and hospitality sectors continue to expand and diversify in all segments and include an increasing number of stores by foreign luxury brands and upscale dining establishments. In the latter category falls Gaodi Xing Chu or Highland Star Kitchen in English, a new restaurant in the city’s Nanshan district which has raised the bar in fine dining to new heights. Situated on the top floor of Yanhan Heights, a conference and events centre draped on a mountain top, it’s a downright culinary retreat, offering its guest an immersive dining experience through settings which fuse the atmosphere of a countryside mansion with that of a contemporary townhouse.

Following a corridor leading from the entrance to the reception desk, a light-filled lounge area unfolds, replete with courtyard veranda, zen garden, comfy seating arrangements and a furnished balcony. Inspired by the lush surrounding greens – mind you, the venue borders on Yanhanshan Country Park – the design aims to blend in, providing a relaxing space where to host large parties and other gatherings. Highland Star Kitchen features six private rooms, each designed as a plush apartment, featuring a living room setting, dining room setting, bathroom and a balcony. The interior design is simple and understated, using a demure palette of colours and predominantly captured by natural materials. As said, Highland Star Kitchen is a fine dining venue and its menu features an elaborate range of regional Chaoshan delicacies.
