As we’ve previously said, Miyashita Park is the newest fashion hub of late in Tokyo‘s fast-evolving retail landscape, accommodating a curated range of top fashion brands. One of the global powerhouses to have opened up shop on the premises of this mall just north of Shibuya Station is Gucci, occupying a 510 sqm. (5,490 sq.ft.) unit spread over two floors. The interior design, created by the brand’s in-house design team under the supervision of creative director Alessandro Michele, features the latest retail design codes, and then some. As the new store is situated in a shopping area frequented by some of the planet’s most savvy shopping demographics, Gucci has gone the extra yard to create an exceptional shopping experience for its local fanbase.

Obviously, much attention has been given to the plus interior design itself, which sees a mix of both classic herringbone floors and oak floors with painted motifs. Very similar to coveted Gucci‘s fashion silhouette, a quirky juxtaposition of materials can be found throughout the store, such as tech display units and the softness of the precious fabrics, walls inn steel blue, sage green, and pale pink velvet featuring rivets and geometric patterns. Further boosting the lavishness are custom-made chairs and round tables, and vintage oriental rugs. Tapping right into the sensibilities of its target clientele, a collaboration has been forged with cult Japanese urban culture platform Tokion, resulting in specially commissioned artworks by celebrated graphic designer Tadanori Yokoo and  illustrator Shohei Otomo.

Yokoo has fused a motif from his celebrated Hanga Jungle retrospective, held three years ago in Tokyo, with Gucci‘s signature double G pattern to create floor-to-ceiling window screens which will be on display for a limited period of time. Otomo, known for his use of a ballpoint pen to bring his depictions to life, has made drawings incorporating key elements from the Gucci brand universe, and these will be on display in-store until Sun – Aug 2. So, what can be found on the shelves here? The new Gucci store carries men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, bags, luggage pieces, small leather goods, shoes, jewellery, watches, eyewear and fragrances, but also limited edition items, such as Gucci Off The Grid backpacks, men’s sneakers, special selections of the Gucci Horsebit 1955 and GG Marmont handbags, as well as the Gucci Shibuya Miyata Park collection of a number of store-exclusive items.
