Hailing from a family of furniture makers, Lionel Jadot boasts an innate sense of construction which, combined with an unbridled curiosity to explore the world and all its treasures, has led him to an art practice all his own. With his anti-conformist approach, Jadot has made a name for himself in interior design, but at his current show at Everyday Gallery in Antwerp, a newly opened venue with a focus on artists with an edge. Here, the Belgian creative multitasker goes full throttle, demonstrating his ability to adapt and reshape materials and objects in multiple ways. Entitled Enthrone Dethrone, the exhibition is Jadot’s first ever held in a gallery, presenting a series of unique sculptures: seating elements or ‘thrones’ crafted from elements that he collected over the years, be it readymades, found or recycled objects, basically all elements with a certain history. For Jadot, working equals playing, recycling, assembling, and tying in other cultures, the local context, and the past along the way. In doing so, he’s breaking codes, playfully mixing genres, combining materials and colours (on through Aug 16).
