The Norwegian capital’s stature as an upscale shopping destination may be a new phenomenon, but it’s one that’s rapidly expanding, and likely to be on a par with Copenhagen and Stockholm‘s more established infrastructures in the foreseeable future. The latest luxury brand to gain access downtown Oslo with a branded retail space is none other than Valentino. The Milan which has opted for a retail space on the premises of Steen & Strøm, one of the city’s leading department stores. Situated on the ground floor, the boutique measures 99 sqm. (1,066 sq.ft.), and features an interior that’s concepted by the luxury brand’s design team in collab with acclaimed architecture practice David Chipperfield Architects. The boutique’s monochrome palette is captured by terrazzo flooring and walls halfway clad with paneling that have a matching terrazzo finish. Shelving made from brass and wood are hooked onto the panels, and the shiny metal is also used for other furnishings, including showcase tables with marble tops, and cabinets. Balancing the austerity if the setting are two colourful carpets with matching ottomans. The new Valentino store carries the brand’s full range of men’s and women’s shoes, bags and small leather goods.
