Tomorrow, the hotly anticipated Supreme store in Shanghai will officially opened its doors, surely to the delight of its sizeable fanbase in the city. The cult streetwear brand made a false start – yes, pun intended – in the planet’s second biggest luxury market in 2019 when a fraudulent Italian father-and-son duo appropriated the exact trade dress and logos of the original company, and allegedly registered it under a ‘slightly’ tweaked name—Supreme Italia. But now, the real deal has arrived, opening up shop in the city’s Jing’an shopping area, only a few blocks away from where Supreme Italia had set up shop. The location is spot on, ticking all the boxes of a full-fledged Supreme retail space. Sitting on the premises of the Wujin Century Building, a modern eight-storey structure with office space, the store features an interior design created by London-based practice Brinkworth in collaboration with architect Neil Logan and the Wilson Brothers. The setting sees more or less the similar elements as the brand’s other stores across the planet, but obviously the design is adapted to this specific location.

The elaborate range of Supreme merchandise is presented along the walls, either on suspended clothing racks or shelving units, leaving ample space for prerequisite props, such as Mark Gonzales‘ statue by the window, a Formula 1 race car, and last but certainly not least, a giant indoor skate bowl by Steve Badgett and his co-founded artist collective Simparch. The retail space boasts a string of carefully picked decorations, including a series of well-known Supreme iconography, a large and colourful mural by New York City-based artist Josh Smith, and a large LED screen featuring skateboard footage. Additionally, a number of artist Nate Lowman‘s shotgun motifs can be found across the premises. And as loud music is part of irreverent skateboard culture, powerful sound boxes sustain the shopping experience and occasional party debauchery. The new Supreme store stocks the full range of apparel, accessories, bags, shoes, skateboards and related necessities. © superfuture.com
