Spawning from the Gentle Monster fold, NUDAKE is an innovative retail format that has taken desserts and pastries as we know it to a whole new level. Launched in 2020 with a shop on the premises of Gentle Monster‘s striking HAUS Shanghai flagship store, it has since gone leaps and bounds, and especially on home turf in South Korea. NUDAKE‘s fourth location has just opened its doors in Seongsu, an area of Seoul that has emerged as the city’s newest high-end shopping zone. Discreetly housed in a low-rise structure with a blind façade yet adorned by a striking red square, it features an interior design by Gentle Monster‘s interior design team. The rectangular space measures approx. 324 sqm. (3,488 sq.ft.) and sees various seating arrangements, made up of different furnishings, on one side, while three giant circular tables take centre stage, allowing a visually dramatic presentation of NUDAKE‘s delectable offerings. At the other end, marked by two bands of backlit light panels, sits a wall-to-wall service counter from where all orders are dispatched.
A polished backdrop of pristine off-white brick walls, wall panels and ceiling is offset by the patina of an existing concrete floor. Interestingly, a chunky concrete block in the outdoor garden serves as an abstract sculpture that, when viewed in the context of the space as a whole, aims to evoke an overwhelming feeling when stepping out into the brightly elevated garden space. The new NUDAKE store not only lists its usual delicacies on the menu, but also presents a new Burger Cake, inspired by, yes indeed, the planet’s favourite fast-food. Sold exclusively at this branch, it’s a signature cake made with American cheese, chocolate cake patty and pickles added to onion cream in salty buns. The Corn Ramen Burger Cake is a corn cream burger topped with crunchy ramen pieces. And that’s not all. The Peak Burger Cake is made with rich matcha cream and black buns is inspired by NUDAKE’s hugely popular Peak signature cake. All the aforementioned cakes are also available in bitesize Micro Burger Cakes.
