When Fondazione Prada was inaugurated almost a decade ago, it was evident that its glorious presence – indeed, we’re referencing that shimmering gold building – would transform the industrial vibe of Milan‘s suburban Scalo Romana neighbourhood. Although the gentrification hasn’t gained steam for obvious reasons, there are signs it’s slowly but steadily getting there. Just a block away from the aforementioned contemporary culture shrine, a dining establishment and watering hole has opened its doors which pulls even the most jaded inner city Milanese to its doorstep—Lubna. Housed in a once derelict but fully redeveloped 350 sqm. (3,767 sq.ft.) warehouse with newly built annex, Lubna offers a stylish dining space and bar. Designed by Florence-based architecture and design practice Q-BIC, guest enter the premises through the annex which boasts a striking semi-circular façade with floor-to-ceiling glass which allows in floods of natural light.
A broad concrete bench establishes the visual and material connection between the outside square and Lubna‘s interior. Interestingly, the outside bench extends indoors, but the material is also used for the floor and various counters, including one for the kitchen, cocktail bar, and one for DJs. Also to be found on the premises of Lubna is an installation of revolving mirrored modules adorning a 15-metre wall. Rotating 180 degrees, the modules collectively form a giant screen for the projection of immersive videos. Lubna is concepted as a laid-back, Meatpacking District-style dining venue and watering hole set up by a group of hospitality entrepreneurs of whom two also run the renowned Moebius restaurant downtown. At Lubna, the approach to food and drink is highly professional but not fussy, offering a menu by chef Enrico Croatti, and brimming with meats and fish, captured in a wide variety of tasty dishes, and an alluring range of cocktails and wines. © superfuture
