As a hotbed of fashion, lifestyle, and last but not least, beauty, South Korea has increasingly become a global pioneer in trends. Here, savvy young consumers with spending power are a driving force to be reckoned with, inciting brands and enterprises to continuously go the extra yard. Chaoreum Hair is a next-generation hair salon which resonates with the aforementioned demographic, offering individualised services paired with a modern industrial-inspired setting. Nestled on the third floor of a high-rise building in the bustling downtown Seomyeon district of Busan, Chaoreum Hair features an interior design created by Seoul-based practice Design Studio HaHi. Interestingly, the chosen aesthetic, which is light years away from traditional hair salons, is inspired by the neighbourhood’s many hardware shops and trendy boutiques.

As such, the salon was designed using distinct angular shapes and raw materials, while also incorporating the building’s concrete shell. The material palette of the hair salon includes galvanised metal, vintage-style timber floors and large floor tiles, and it’s all tied in with a colour palette of grey and ivory hues to create a neutral sense of harmony. The furnishings are largely crafted from stainless steel, black glass and mirrors, effortlessly blend in, making the space optically larger. The Chaoreum Hair salon boasts two entrances, and upon entering the premises, clients find themselves in a waiting area at the core of the salon, furnished with two robust benches and two communal tables. On one side, it’s flanked by the reception desk, while various work stations, a shampoo area, a storage space and a staff room are all situated around the waiting area. © superfuture
