Opened last year in Mumbai‘s upscale Bandra West neighbourhood by fashion entrpreneur Garima Bijlani, multi-brand emporium NEZO is a unique fixture in this sprawling city’s fast-evolving retail landscape. The store stocks a tightly curated range of contemporary western-style womenswear and home items by a string of emerging Indian designers nationwide which resonate well with a young and savvy demographic. As of late, the NEZO premises have already seen a revamp by local practice Sanjay Puri Architects which is perfectly aligned with its forward vision. A curved chrome steel counter at the door ushers shoppers into the light-filled 1,800 sq.ft. (167 sqm.) retail space, a curved chrome steel counter instantly sets the tone, design-wise that is. Indeed, the chosen aesthetic has a distinct futuristic edge. An inviting seating area at the centre anchors the setting, and is surrounded by custom-made silvery clothing racks and clusters of pedestal units.

To ensure the fluidity of the space, the interior design effortlessly folds around the existing support columns. Mind you, the back of the two large columns serve as fitting rooms, while their other sides are outfitted with shelving for accessories. The right column features an installation of colourful balls of yarn housed in a glass box, providing a playful backdrop for fashion photoshoots. The store settings are frame by white walls with a layer of Greek-inspired white-wash texture applied, and blue-tinted concrete flooring. The ceiling light installation of LED rope meanders through the space, adding a playful visual element to the store. As said, NEZO stocks a wide range of emerging Indian designers and brands, including RIGU, Maison Blu, Yam, Curated Curiosities, Sharnita Nandwana, alfabolic and Indus People. © superfuture
