Mount Waverley is a fast-emerging leafy patch in Melbourne‘s urban sprawl, and along with its rapid transformation, the suburb has seen an increasing number of places where to indulge in the good life. In the latter category falls the newly opened café of Klim Coffee Roasting Co. Founded by hospitality entrepreneur Wei Ren, and named after his wife Kim Lou, the café occupies a 176 sqm. (1,895 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of newly built commercial complex just south of the bustling Monash Freeway. The interior design, created by Melbourne-based architecture and design practice SuiL, reveals an alluring setting which alludes to the craftsmanship of Klim Coffee Roasting Co and beckons people from afar. Following a so-called grid-and-box design principle while also using new design elements and materials, the space has been given an entirely new and fitting identity.

Within this grid system, all the functions of the café are formed, including the café counter, retail display, communal tables, bar tables, and the separate coffee roast room, known as The Box. The latter volume, captured warm timber, is the very heart of Klim Coffee Roasting Co‘s operations, and its large windows and doorway allow ample peeks of the coffee-making process. Right in front of The Box sits an elongated service counter with bar seating, while additional seating comes in the form of an elongated, 16-seat communal table, and bar seating lining the side windows. Porcelain slabs and steel plates are seamlessly integrated into the design, serving as the café counter, tables, and display shelves. LED lighting is seamlessly integrated into the beams and emphasise the grid principle. The menu at the Klim Coffee Roasting Co café lists various coffee concoctions and a selection of tasty pastries.
