Straddled along the coast, Ansan is part of Seoul‘s sprawling and ever-growing metropolitan area. Interestingly, it’s South Korea‘s first ever planned city, gaining ‘city’ status in 1987, and is modelled after another planned urban endeavour—the Australian capital Canberra. These days, Ansan is best known as a leading hi-tech hub, and, as it happens, the country’s top-ranking city where most foreign nationals live. The city has a dynamic all its own, and increasingly offers its dwellers a lifestyle comparable with those living in downtown Seoul. Well, sort of. We’re talking the recent opening of Tadow Record Bar, an intimate watering hole where vinyl plays a pivotal role. Occupying a narrow but lofty unit of approx. 54 sqm. (581 sq.ft.) on the ground floor of a modern building, the venue is not only concepted but also designed by South Korean design practice yoxemite. Oozing a retro vibe, the setting sees an elongated bar crafted from lacquered timber on one side, obviously with turntables and speakers embedded. Bar-style seating lines the opposite wall, while for groups, seating booths can be found at the far end of Tadow Record Bar. Lighting comprises nifty fixtures crafted from steel attached to the furnishings and suspended ceiling lights. © superfuture
