Following two previous pop-up stores, BYREDO has finally inaugurated a permanent standalone boutique in Tokyo. The cult Stockholm-based fragrance brand, helmed by creative director Ben Gorham, has secured a location just off bustling Omotesando dori, the city’s Golden Mile of luxury shopping. Nestled in a maze of alleyways lined with  boutiques of leading brands, the BYREDO store occupies a unit on the premises of modern three-storey structure, and features an interior design inspired by the Japanese capital’s eclectic culture. While the setting is clean and understated, the hand-painted ceiling with its intricate motifs forms a contrasting decorative backdrop, created by Swedish artist Miriam Eklöf of paint studio Hemqultur and assistant painter Ulrika Svensson of studio Ikas Kulturmåler.

Inspired by traditional techniques, Eklöf infuses the space with her distinctive interpretation of Swedish decorative art and traditional colours. Adding to the cultured atmosphere at the store are various tightly curated design objects, almost all Swedish, ranging from a rare tapestry by artist Märta Måås-Fjetterström and a vintage Alvar Aalto sofa for Artek, to a custom-made Kasthall carpet and a bespoke root wood table, handcrafted by a local artisan to harmonise with the honed granite floors and grey hammered furniture pieces of the retail space. Large sculptural stone volumes form the central sink and display units, anchoring the setting, while panelled walls dipped in a beige hue and lacquered cherry wood further add to the textural variety of the interior design. The new BYREDO store carries  the full collection of fragrances, makeup, body care, and home, in addition to select Byproduct items. © superfuture
