If you ask us, every town needs a Japanese-style music bar. Opened five years ago, Bursa has quickly become the preferred address in Kyiv of creatives from near and far, and for legit reasons. A little while ago, the property has added the aptly dubbed Bursa Bar, a night haunt where guests and city dwellers can sit back and relax, sip a cocktail or two, and engage in some jolly banter. Designed by Kyiv-based architectural designer Nastia Mirzoyan, the bar occupies a cozy, 55 sqm. (592 sq.ft.) nook on the ground floor, and as said, it’s inspired by the many alluring watering holes in the Land of the Rising Sun which aren’t just a watering hole, but also a place where to unwind with good tunes. The configuration of Bursa Bar is simple and straightforward—an elongated, well-stocked bar paired with sleek chairs on one side, an equally well-stocked DJ booth, and plenty of room for dance moves in the middle.

Directly opposite, lining the wall is a bench with small round tables and stools. Additional bar seating is offered in the two windows. The bar sees an infusion of plywood, captured by wall panels, shelving and some furnishings, while the bar is clad in ceramic tiles and comes with a stone top. Needless to say, special attention has been given to Bursa Bar‘s acoustics hence the faux coffered plywood ceiling, which also lends the space a beautiful symmetry, and the presence of two Devon Ojas speakers. Mind you, it was Mirzoyan’s idea to create not only a space reminiscent of a musical instrument, but also an immersive one which gives off the vibe of being inside a giant music speaker or guitar. Another element which has been given special attention is lighting. Accent lighting for seating areas by way of small bright spots has been combined with soft linear lighting to emphasise vinyl shelves and exquisite drinks. © superfuture
