The annual We Design event returns to Beirut on May 23-26, bringing a slew of interesting design presentations by Lebanon‘s finest crop of creatives across town. Pitching in with a showcase of its own, is acclaimed designer Nada Debs and her eponymous practice. Situated in the city’s vibrant Gemmayzeh district, Studio Nada Debs will present SWIRLMANIA, a series of no less than 25 variations of its SWIRL table, an intricately crafted furniture piece which bears is a testament to the studio’s mastery of both traditional and unique craft techniques that continue to push the boundaries of craft. The SWIRL table features meticuously crafted mother of pearl inlays that take over 80 hours to complete, to stunning tin inlays to masterful weaving, carving and marquetry.
Every table showcases the skill and creativity inherent in its celebrated regional craft, seamlessly blending time-honoured methods with innovative approaches of passionate craftspeople that help bring these modernist ideas to life. These limited tables are a labour of love and delineate the Studio Nada Debs’ determination to creating new craft approaches to make long-lasting, consciously luxurious pieces for contemporary homes. Mind you, the 25 different tables on display at the SWIRLMANIA showcase will be available in limited numbers at the venue. The show also coincides with Nada Debs‘ nearing 25-year career as a designer who upholds true craftsmanship, while also embodying the essence of Lebanese time-honoured artistry and design innovation. © superfuture
