It’s bringing sexy back big time. Well, at least in Madrid‘s nightlife scene. We’re talking Gilda Haus, the latest hospitality venture of savvy entrepreneurs Cristina Bonaga and Yajaira Malavé which has swiftly become the preferred hangout of a like-minded crowd of young Madrileños. The duo initially opened La Gildería, a modern take on a traditional Spanish bar, in the La Latina area of town, and Gilda Club, a pop-up night club, gaining a growing following which now converge at their hybrid new hospitality format which is a club, cocktail bar and bistro rolled into one. And yes, it’s oozing sex appeal. The Gilda Haus space measures 230 sqm. (2,476 sq.ft.), and happens to be situated in a location which has played a pivotal role in La Movida, the influential countercultural wave which swept across the city and far beyond in the post-Franco era. Anticipating the in-the-know crowd of the duo’s previous ventures, the Gilda Haus design codes have been created in collaboration with architects Jose David Costa and Sergio Ortiz of Madrid-based architecture and design practice CODOO STUDIO.

The chosen aesthetic is influenced by Italian architect Gianfranco Frattini in the 1970s and it’s anchored by a bold and omnipresent deep orange hue. This means that this vibrant colour is captured by a multitude of materials and objects, from carpets and velvet curtains, to aluminium furniture and aluminium ceilings. As said, Gilda Haus encompasses several functions, and as such, the fun here effortlessly shifts from daytime to night time by nipping a cocktail or two, indulging in tasty bites, and last but certainly not least, some serious booty shaking on the dance floor. Although designed on a tight budget, the open-plan space is unapologetically high on style. So, what’s on the menu at Gilda Haus? As for drinks, a slew of different classic cocktails, obviously, and as for bites, a wide range from sandwiches, tapas and other typically Spanish delicacies. The dance floor is ruled by a mix of house and disco, delivered by a rotation of curated deejays from Madrid and across Spain. © superfuture
