Founded in 2016 by Héctor Esrawe and husband-and-wife team Veronica Peña and Ignacio Cadena, fragrance house Xinú taps into the abundant and multi-faceted botanical realm of Mexico and the Americas. This homage to nature and local culture is also reflected in the brand’s name Xinú, which means ‘nose’ in Otomi, the language of an eponymous indigenous people living in Central Mexico. A little while ago, Xinú inaugurated a second retail space at home base Mexico City, situated in the city’s leafy Juárez neighbourhood. The store occupies the former premises of a car garage and workshop which, with the help of affiliated Mexican design practices Esrawe Studio and Cadena Concepts, has been transformed into a secluded oasis of artisanal olfaction.

The design approach started with the idea of gifting the neighbourhood with a garden, and as such, infusing a vacant space with life by creating a holistic concept that integrates the power of nature, with design and architecture. In the middle of this lush verdant garden landscaped by Arturo Flores, sits a circular wooden pavilion. Uncluttered, with floor-to-ceiling windows and just a single support pole, the retail space is more or less an extension of the garden, oozing a nurturing serenity. Here, both at the periphery and core of the circular retail space, and last but not least, amidst the garden’s botanical splendour, Xinú‘s wide range of handcrafted fragrances, home scents and body care products are presented. © superfuture
