As one of the planet’s leading shopping destinations, Tokyo offers both volume and endless variety in pretty much all segments, and needless to say, the retail landscape here constantly evolves to cater to the savviest shopping demographic we know of. Although less frequented than Shibuya, Harajuku, Aoyama or Ginza, also the neighbourhoods where most leading international brands have set up shop, the more intimate Ebisu district is brimming with hidden retail gems. In the latter category falls dafoffice, a newly opened store by designers Ryunosuke Aikawa and Yoshiro Ishikawa. As the respective founders of menswear brands RANDY and Call, they launched pop-up stores to showcase their seasonal collections, but decided the time was right to set up permanent shop. Situated on the second floor of a modern building, tucked away in the maze of alleyways of a residential pocket in the Ebisu district, the permanent dafoffice store has found a home. The retail space is compact, and combined with its chevron parquet flooring and furnishings, it gives off an inviting, homey vibe. A timber shelving and display unit, a matching sales counter and three moveable steel clothing racks are paired with two chairs whose distinct design more adds character. In addition to the designers’ newest collections of their aforementioned brands, dafoffice also stocks a series of daf caps and a curated selection of art books. © superfuture
