The double Michelin-starred Kadeau restaurant in Copenhagen‘s storied Christianshavn district has narrowly escaped a storm cooked up by the COVID-19 pandemic, and so have all its sister establishments of the eponymous hospitality group. Luckily, a collective of Danish investors and ardent fans, including well-known athletes and captains of industry have breathed new life into the lauded establishment. And now, as if to inaugurate this new era, the flagship in the Danish capital has revealed a fully revamped setting. The interior design sees a renewed collaboration between chef with Nicolai Nørregaard and Danish architecture practice OEO Studio, and this has led to a complete transformation of the premises. Situated on the ground floor of a former office building from the 1950s, Kadeau now boasts a more secluded and intimate atmosphere than before. The façade has been timbered up, and access can only be gained by ringing the doorbell. Unsurprisingly, the design continues to take cues from Bornholm, an island in the Baltic Sea where not only Nørregaard grew up, but which is also the home of the very first Kadeau restaurant—mind you, this eatery bears one Michelin star.

The lounge within the restaurant has been extended and furnishings include custom-lounge seating and pieces from Fredericia, as well as astep light fixtures, and all set against a backdrop of beige wall bricks and contrasting brick flooring. The main dining space features a wine room whose intricate details such as bespoke iron doors, windows and hot rolled steel cladding. Adding up to the sense of contemporary sophistication are the waiter stations in oak with vintage brass knobs and topped in granite from the island of Bornholm. A new adjacent private dining room, seating up to fourteen guests, comes with an open service kitchen and is furnished with a bespoke long dining table, paired with the design studio’s very own Coco armchairs, and a bespoke wine cabinet. Furthermore, the Kadeau premises are adorned by colourful paintings by Copenhagen-based artist Farshad Farzankia. And that’s not all. Early next year, a greenhouse will open with additional seating and ample views of the courtyard garden.
