Paris-based cult cobbler Amina Muaddi not only knows how to create coveted women’s shoes, but also how to use retail as an extension of here forward vision. Following last summer’s much-publicised inauguration of a sleek shop-in-shop on the premises of Harrod’s department store in London, an ephemeral retail space has just been revealed in another major shopping destinationDubai. The venture sees a renewed collaboration with architect Harry Nuriev of design practice Crosby Studios and comprises a pavilion situated on Kite Beach, the preferred meeting grounds for residents of the leafy Umm Suqeim district and far beyond. The Amina Muaddi pop-up store, a collaboration with local luxury women’s retailer Ounass, is housed in an oblong structure with semicircular ends, crafted from shiny metal and with floor-to-ceiling glass sides which provide ample peeks of the interior from afar. Inside, a grid core sits next to a large display, both crafted from metal and presenting Amina Muaddi‘s coveted shoes and bags. In fact, four existing styles are presented here, the Alexa, the Vittoria, the Camelia and the Fiona, but all exclusively crafted in special colourways for this pop-up store (open through Dec 27).
