Yohji Yamamoto‘s women’s line Y’s has had a shop-in-shop on the premises of Tokyo‘s Isetan Shinjuku department store for quite some time. As of late, the retail space has relocated from the fourth to the third floor of the department store’s main building, The setting, created by Yamamoto in collaboration with Tokyo-based architecture and design practice OSO, reflects the two entities’ universal values and design approach, and in particular pattern making. The chosen aesthetic may be highly functional, but oozes a free-spirited dynamic thanks to a bold use of black and white that’s captured by a zigzagging pattern across the walls. Furnishings are few and simple, comprising merely wall-mounted steel clothing racks and tiered shelving, in addition to matching tiered display tables. The new Y’s shop-in-shop carries the latest designs, in addition to a capsule collection inspired by Y’s 2004-2005 Fall/Winter Collection which was launched in conjunction with the new shop-in-shop and a collection of bags and accessories.
