More than a decade after closing the doors of its boutique on Grand Street, Yohji Yamamoto has made a grand return to Soho, arguably New York City‘s most coveted shopping grounds for fashion-forward crowds. The retail space occupies an elongated 150 sqm. (1,615 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of a newly built six-storey residential building. Large windows on all sides of the store allow in floods of day light, but also offer passers-by ample peeks of the understated, cinematic interior design created by Yohji Yamamoto‘s in-house design team in Tokyo. A series of suspended LED panels across the entire length of the retail space present designer Yohji Yamamoto‘s world view as an artistic wallpaper.

An ongoing visual showcase, it starts with a monochrome work of both the Yohji Yamamoto and Yohji Yamamoto POUR HOMME A/W 2023 Collections shot by Takay, a renowned Japanese photographer who has been capturing the world of Yamamoto in recent years. Intentionally uncluttered, the store’s  furnishings are few and simple, comprising merely sleek moveable clothing racks and chunky, geometrically shaped displays. The new Yohji Yamamoto store carries various lines, including Yohji Yamamoto POUR HOMME, Y’s and LIMI feu. Interestingly, the store is also equipped with beacons, and as such, it’s linked to the online boutique, providing an omni-channel shopping experience.
