Following two outposts in Seoul, Avant+Bakery, an artisanal patisserie with a focus on French bread recipes, has shifted its focus to Seongnam, a satellite city situated southeast of the sprawling South Korean capital. The new bakery and café occupies a 190 sqm. (2,045 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of the Kakao Pangyo Hideout office building, and features an interior design by Seoul-based architecture practice Oftn Studio. As said, the company’s essence is French bread, but pairs it with the current sensibilities in the country’s flourishing dessert culture. In order to reflect this brand’s identity in the space, the chosen aesthetic embeds existing architectural elements, while at the same time, the traditional European architectural style and modern elements were harmonised.

Unlike other spaces on the ground floor, Avant+ Bakery lacks traditional outer boundaries and aims to fully connect with the public space. Stone tiles, the kind which are generally used outdoors, evoke the sense of enjoying brunch on a historic European square, while concrete counters and bread stands have a mere aesthetic role as objects in addition to functional roles. The tables situated at the centre of the space come with wheels and rails, so they can easily be moved depending on the number of customers. Additionally, there’s a bar-type seat where you can simply enjoy a drink while gazing outside. Avant+ Bakery‘s menu lists a wide range of pastries, notably croissant variations, and various hot and cold beverages.
