Emerging hospitality moguls Ghanim Salah Al Qassim and Mahmood Al Khamis are shifting gear. The young Dubai-based duo launched Drop Coffee, a specialty coffee parlour a little while ago, and alongside the kick-off of another hospitality concept, they’ve opened a second café in the city. Situated at Dar Wasl shopping centre in the leafy Al Safa 2 residential area of town, it occupies a lofty ground floor unit with an indoor entrance and one which allows coffee aficionados to enter directly from outside. The premises are understated, if not a tad on the raw side because of the vast swathes of exposed concrete, yet feature a slew of elements which make it a distinctly design-led setting. The entrance from the outside is flanked by bar seating, extending along the side wall on one side and featuring decorative wall lamps. That side is shielded from the service counter situated right behind it by a floor-to-ceiling wall partially made up of glass bricks.

Directly opposite a bench made of stacked concrete bricks with cushion seating and suspended cushion back rests, all against a backdrop of a broken tile mosaic, framed by lightwood beams. The latter element also anchors the service station which features a counter of the same material with a stainless steel top, and embellished with backlit glass block skirting at the bottom, while overhead, a light bar demarcates the entire unit. In addition to a series of tables and chairs, the back of Drop Coffee‘s new outpost sees a cozy seating arrangement with a sofa and ottomans, situated right next to timber shelving laden with coveted merchandise. Large terrazzo tile flooring ties in all sections of the café. As said, Drop Coffee is all about specialty coffee, and as such, the menu lists beans from all over the planet, including Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Nicaragua, and both hot and cold coffee concoctions, ranging from classics, such as a flat white and caffe latte, to drip coffee and aeropress coffee for true connoisseurs. Oh, and there’s a range of pastries and croissants too.
