Tucked away in a remote corner of Europe, the Georgian capital Tblisi has quietly emerged in the past decade as a modern lifestyle hub of sorts with all the perks that come with it, and obviously, that includes a wide range of happening hospitality concepts. The newly opened Chicos restaurant in the city’s leafy Vake neighbourhood, is indicative of this ongoing trend. The dining establishment occupies a lofty 110 sqm. (1,184 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of a modern low-rise building and features an interior design by architects Beso Turazashvili and Nikita Khudyakov of local multidisciplinary design practice Tamashi Studios. The duo set out to create an alluring, modern, and last but not least, also an instagrammable setting for its young and highly savvy target demographic, and it’s certainly one that ticks all of our boxes.

As an all-day hospitality concept, the interior design of Chicos required a transitional quality that would effortlessly adapt to any hour of the day—from a breakfast café in the morning to a lunch spot in the afternoon, and finally, a cozy diner in the evening. Large floor-to-ceiling windows in the front and back of the building enable the contrasting beige-and-red setting to be engulfed with floods of daylight. The custom-designed furnishings and some fixtures have been given rounded, toy-like features, adding a playful touch. The building’s bare shell is still visible, but it’s overlaid with timber panelling to create a more intimate, homey atmosphere, while creating a magazine wall and reading section along the way. Lush potted plants and a striking mirror in the dining section, sourced from Polish design studio Zieta, add a sophisticated touch. As a contemporary all-day restaurant, Chicos has a menu to match, listing anything from tasty breakfast options and lunch favourites, such as salads and soups, to savoury main dishes and mouthwatering desserts.
