Only founded in 2016 by creative director Cate Holstein and Adam Pritzker, chairman of affiliated financing and distribution platform Assembled Brands, the sportswear-inspired silhouettes of KHAITE have resonated well with a sophisticated clientele on home turf and abroad. Now considered part of the upper echelons of the American fashion scene, the high-end womenswear brand has banked on the momentum and recently scaled up its operations by launching its first standalone store at homebase New York City. Securing a 4,000 sq.ft. (approx. 372 sqm.) ground floor of a cast-iron structure built in 1870, the Khaite store features an interior design by Holstein’s husband and architect Griffin Frazen.

Previously home to a parking garage, the premises came with two skylights that have been incorporated in the understated yet intimate interior design which pairs a backdrop of concrete with matching displays and impressive steel volumes lined with clothing racks. Recessed wall sections are backlit, and combined with the aforementioned skylights – mind you, one sits right above a live tree – and an linear light that traverses the entire length of the retail space, it creates an intricate play of light which adds a subtle sense of mystery to the overall shopping experience. The new KHAITE carries the brand’s full range of women’s apparel, accessories, handbags and shoes.
