Since apparel behemoth PVH snapped up cult streetwear brand Supreme two years ago, the latter has seen a steadily expanding retail presence across the globe, and the very latest store opening is in Chicago. The brand has secured a location in Wicker Park, an affluent part of town which has transformed tremendously in these past few years, but so far luckily retained a rough edge. The elongated red brick structure was built 1889 and had been the home of a launderette for the past 70 years. The interior design, a collaborative effort of London-based design practices Brinkworth and Wilson Brothers, and architect Neil Logan from New York City, is in line with the aesthetic of all other Supreme stores.

The lofty space has been stripped back, revealing a large part of its brick walls, wooden roof beams and utility pipes to create an intentional ‘raw’ look. Furnishings are few and simple, comprising wall mounted shelving and clothing racks, standing clothing racks, and black timber benches which tie in with a matching sales counter which sits in front of a back wall covered in LED screens showing promotional footage. Making the new retail space unique among the fifteen Supreme outposts across the planet are a number of artistic tweaks—an expansive mural by Rita Ackermann, Mark Gonzales‘ golden sphinx sculpture, and a tile mosaic by Sluto a.k.a. vibedoubt which decoratively spells out the brand’s name. The new Supreme store carries the brand’s full range of apparel, accessories, shoes and skateboards.
