Jean Prouvé, anyone? The legendary French architect and industrial designer gains the limelight at a collaborative showcase in Tokyo by Vitra and the ongoing SKWAT project of Japanese design office Daikei Mills. Simply dubbed P, after the initials of Public, Place, Practice, and of course Prouvé, it takes place at a basement space in the city’s Aoyama district. On display are a selection Prouvé’s iconic furniture designs which have all been manufactured and sold by Vitra since 2002, in a setting with shelving units and scaffolding. The showcase also includes new Prouvé pieces which have just been added to Vitra‘s collection. Mind you, the location is actually used as storage by art book distributor twelvebooks which explains the presence of stacks of books on the premises. The concept of the showcase is to challenge the boundaries of usual contexts by creating a hybrid space that both complements and extends usual contexts and frameworks (open through Oct 29).
