Spawned from the fold of moredeepdonut, a specialty doughnut shop in Seoul with a cult following, newly opened MEWB (pron.: myube) looks to be gaining a similar status in this niche food section. The coffee bar, tucked away in the leafy Hannam-dong area of town, measures 106 sqm. (1,141 sq.ft.) spread across two top floors of a modern building. The well-hidden establishment features an interior design by local architecture and design practice KKOL. The adopted design concept, dubbed axis and connection, is taken quite literally, featuring and a minimalist and linear design, smooth surfaces, and a stainless steel column which not only straddles two floors, but also aims to visually unite them. On both levels the column sees a built-in speaker.

The orange floor is a signature moredeepdonut shade, and as such, a nod to the affiliation of the two hospitality entities. The building’s concrete shell with its large round corner windows is integrated in the design, forming a matching backdrop for MEWB‘s austere furnishings. The lower floor sees a service counter with stools from where the coffee brews are served, and next to the staircase sits a cabinet showcasing the many doughnut variations. Up one flight of stairs, more seating is available and there’s even an outdoor terrace. As said, MEWB serves doughnuts, and rather special ones at that, featuring names such as Crème Brûlée, Deep Green Tea, Oreo, Happy Cheese and Finger Deep. Additionally, there are six different coffee brews, teas and juices.
