Following last year’s opening of standalone boutiques in Amsterdam and at Amsterdam Airport SchipholBalenciaga continues its retail expansion in the Low Countries with an additional retail space in Brussels. The Paris-based fashion house has secured a 340 sqm. (3,660 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of a Neoclassical townhouse built in 1829. Situated alongside bustling Waterloolaan, the city’s undisputed address for high-end fashion shopping, the store finds itself amidst outposts of brands such as Giorgio Armani, Hermès, Prada, Bvlgari and Pomellato. The lower façade has been meticulously redeveloped, and now sees one large and a smaller window which allow ample views of the store’s blatantly austere interior to anyone passing by. A covered passageway ushers shoppers to the striking premises created by Balenciaga‘s in-house design team. While much of the interior has been dramatically revamped, showing sleek metal shelving, displays and light fixtures, glass-encased curtains that line wall sections, and matching grey carpeting, there’s room left for subtle decorative elements in the form of concrete wall panels with mouldings that tie in with the ornate ceilings. The new Balenciaga store carries the brand’s full range of women’s and men’s apparel, accessories, bags, shoes, jewellery pieces and eyewear.
