It’s Paris Fashion Week, and obviously, Celine is present with a catwalk show for its S/S 2023 Men’s Collection. With Hedi Slimane at the creative helm of the cult fashion house, the elaborate presentation of 67 looks was a delicate mash-up of rock, punk and mod silhouettes worn by an equally edgy cast of models. The looks ooze a carefully constructed irreverence, but then again, it’s one that’s firmly rooted in bourgeois elegance. The collection, dubbed Dysfunctional Bauhaus, was held at Palais de Tokyo, a leading contemporary arts venue in the City of Lights, for a specific reason. When Slimane was calling the shots at Dior in the early 2000s, he intended to inaugurate Palais de Tokyo with a fashion show, but the building was still under construction. And now, two decades on, on the venue’s 20th anniversary, it’s Slimane’s current tenure at Celine which has led him back to his beloved venue. Adding to the catwalk’s grandeur was a glittering Alexander Calder-inspired object dangling from above which seemed to chime in with the ostentatious jewellery displayed on some of the models, and of course, the spectacle was accompanied by a special soundtrack which was performed, written and arranged by Gustaf, commissioned by Chris Coady and co-produced by Slimane. Shown here are nine looks from Celine‘s S/S 2023 Men’s Collection that we particularly like.
