Founded in 2003 by Algerian-French hospitality entrepreneur Mourad Mazouz, Sketch restaurant, situated in London‘s fashionable Mayfair district, has since become a fav stomping ground of the city’s top creatives and glitterati alike. The refined food obviously has a lot to do with it, but the alluring design-led settings also add to an elevated culinary experience. The establishment’s Lecture Room and Library, arguably the establishment’s main draw, gained three Michelin stars in 2019, and to keep the savvy clientele on its toes, it recently revealed a brand new interior design. Once again designed by acclaimed Paris-based interior designer India Mahdavi, the restaurant has ditched its photogenic soft pink hue interior, created in 2014, for a setting in exuberant yellow and tangerine.

The coffered and domed ceiling, dipped in a tangerine shade, is paired with walls covered in metallic copper wallpaper, providing an opulent backdrop for existing seating arrangements which have been newly upholstered with copper-toned fabric and striking artworks by lauded British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare. Shonibare’s artworks, comprising five hand-carved masks and ten quilts inspired by African masks from Pablo Picasso‘s collection, are paired with a curated selection of pieces by other African artists. Next to light fixtures designed by Mahdavi herself, handcrafted wall lamps by French designer Inès Bressand illuminate the space. The hailed menu at Sketch, supervised by celebrated chef Pierre Gagnaire, has been slightly tweaked in honour of Shonibare, and now features a West-African-inspired dish, while the bar pours a specially concocted cocktail.
