The unexpected passing of creative director Virgil Abloh last Sunday has obviously put a turbo spin on Louis Vuitton‘s already hotly anticipated presence in Miami. It’s that time of the year when the global art, fashion and finance elite converges for some jolly cross-pollination in a city that has become more and more a preferred playground for haute debaucheries. Along with the luxury behemoth’s catwalk presentation of Virgil Was Here, its S/S 2022 men’s collection created by Abloh, an elaborate and interactive showcase has emerged at the buzzing Design District. Officially called Louis Vuitton Men’s Temporary Residency, it occupies Jungle Plaza, a 20,000 sq.ft. (1,858 sqm.), the area’s open air event space. Needless to say, the temporary showcase has the name Virgil Abloh written all over it, oozing innovation, colour, and of course, cheeky playfulness.

The venue comprises a configuration of sea containers, all painted in red and bearing the ‘LV’ logo, and interspersed with larger-than-life characters from The Adventures of Zoooom with Friends who first appeared during the 2020 Digital Fashion Week in Paris, and other figures. The Louis Vuitton Men’s Temporary Residency also comes with a custom Augmented Reality experience. QR codes displayed on the containers activate via Snapchat, allowing shoppers to interact with the characters’ animated incarnations, while generating their own unique and sharable content. Mind you, even the large ‘Jungle’ mural which marks the venue has been painted over to align with the immersive takeover (open through Jan 25). Fancy dropping by? Timed-entrance reservations can be made via QR code stations featured throughout the Design District.
